For nearly half a century handball has struggled to maintain a presence in the UK.
Thanks mainly to London 2012, the UK is beginning to recognise handball as a ‘new’ credible, major sport and many well established nations are interested to see how the British apply the ‘bulldog spirit’ to handball.

Again, it is the games’ Olympic status that is responsible for handball being included in the Change4Life Schools Sport Club (C4L) initiative which will be rolled out across the country during the forthcoming school year. English schools had the opportunity to choose from seven sports and over 400 elected to play handball.

The increasing popularity of the game has encouraged seventeen Essex schools to form C4L handball clubs. It is no surprise therefore that all this interest has come to the attention of the County media and sporting bodies. Let’s hope that this media coverage and interest will accelerate the development of an Essex league.
